Two major corporations have significantly expanded their Ethereum holdings, purchasing more than $840 million worth of the cryptocurrency in recent transactions. BitMine and SharpLink’s massive acquisitions signal growing corporate confidence in Ethereum as a treasury asset.
BitMine Solidifies Global Leadership with $668 Million Purchase
BitMine reinforced its position as the world’s largest corporate Ethereum holder through a substantial acquisition last week. The company purchased 153,075 ETH tokens valued at approximately $668 million, according to blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain.
This latest purchase brings BitMine’s total Ethereum holdings to 1,866,974 tokens, worth roughly $8.15 billion at current market prices. Combined with Bitcoin reserves and $635 million in cash holdings, the company’s total cryptocurrency and cash position reaches $8.98 billion.
The acquisition maintains BitMine’s status as the largest corporate Ethereum treasury globally. The company now ranks as the second-largest corporate cryptocurrency holder, trailing only Strategy’s $71 billion Bitcoin portfolio.
Chairman Tom Lee characterized Ethereum as one of the most significant macro investment opportunities of the coming decade. Lee drew parallels to Wall Street’s transformation following the United States’ departure from the gold standard in 1971. He emphasized Ethereum’s potential role in reshaping global financial markets through its finance and artificial intelligence applications.
BitMine enjoys backing from prominent institutional investors, including ARK’s Cathie Wood, Founders Fund, Pantera, Kraken, and Galaxy Digital. The company recently launched “The Chairman’s Message,” a monthly video series, alongside “Alchemy of 5%,” a monthly investor presentation.
SharpLink Expands Holdings While Generating Staking Returns
SharpLink demonstrated its commitment to Ethereum accumulation by purchasing 39,008 ETH tokens at an average price of $4,531 per token. The $176.7 million acquisition increased the company’s total holdings to 837,230 ETH, valued at approximately $3.6 billion.
The company financed part of this purchase by raising $46.6 million through its at-the-market equity program. Since establishing its Ethereum treasury in June, SharpLink has generated 2,318 ETH in staking rewards, demonstrating the yield-generating potential of its strategy.
SharpLink’s ETH concentration ratio now stands at 3.94, nearly doubling since early summer. The firm maintains over $71 million in cash reserves for future cryptocurrency purchases.
Company leadership highlighted Ethereum’s staking yield capability as a key differentiator from traditional passive treasury assets. This income-generating feature provides additional value beyond potential price appreciation.
The aggressive accumulation strategies employed by both companies reflect broader institutional recognition of Ethereum’s utility and investment potential. These substantial purchases contribute to Ethereum’s growing legitimacy as a corporate treasury asset alongside traditional holdings.
