The surge in optimism follows the successful launch of the REX-Osprey Solana + Staking (SSK) exchange-traded fund in July 2024. This staking-enabled product demonstrated substantial market demand, generating over $20 million in trading volume on its inaugural day.

SEC Acknowledges Invesco Galaxy Filing

The Securities and Exchange Commission recently acknowledged the joint filing from Invesco and Galaxy Digital. The two firms submitted their spot Solana ETF application in June 2025. This acknowledgment triggers the formal review process, bringing the application closer to a final decision.

The regulatory agency now has a queue of applications from major financial institutions. Fidelity, VanEck, Bitwise, and Grayscale have all submitted proposals for spot Solana ETFs. Grayscale specifically seeks to convert its existing GSOL Solana Trust into an exchange-traded fund format.

Industry experts, including James Seyffart and Eric Balchunas, project potential approvals as early as October 2025. The SEC has not announced specific decision dates for any pending applications. However, recent requests for updated S-1 filings suggest active regulatory review is underway.

Market Dynamics Drive Approval Expectations

The Ethereum ETF’s strong performance has created positive momentum for additional cryptocurrency ETFs. Institutional inflows into Ethereum products demonstrate growing mainstream acceptance of digital asset investment vehicles. This success provides a favorable precedent for Solana ETF approvals.

Polymarket and similar prediction platforms reflect sustained investor confidence. The 99% approval odds have remained consistent since the SSK ETF launch. Market participants view the staking-enabled product’s success as validation of institutional appetite for Solana exposure.

The SEC’s historical approach to cryptocurrency ETFs shows increasing openness to innovation. Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs received approval after extensive review periods. Solana applications benefit from established regulatory frameworks and precedents set by earlier approvals.

Current market conditions support ETF expansion beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum. Solana’s growing ecosystem and technological capabilities make it a natural candidate for institutional investment products. The blockchain’s performance improvements and developer activity strengthen the investment thesis.

Multiple application reviews create competitive pressure for timely decisions. Delays in approval could disadvantage U.S. markets compared to international jurisdictions offering similar products. This regulatory arbitrage concern may influence SEC decision-making timelines.
